As his uncle with the last name of Rhett neared death, the uncle promised to bequeath his fortune to any male nephews who would carry on the last name. Thomas Smith was happy to oblige, and so became Thomas Rhett. THe facility was as advertised- comfortable clean older Band B type centrally located. Atmosphere was very congenial making you feel at home.

Located in historic Central Beaufort less than 1 mile from the Waterfront Park, this Inn offers a daily homemade breakfast. Built in 1864 and featuring antique decor, guests can relax on the spacious veranda.Rooms at the Rhett House have a fireplace and access to the veranda. In the afternoon, guests can dine on tea and pastries. Hors d’oeuvres and desserts are served in the evening.Hunting Island State Park is 20 minutes’ drive from the property. History of the Thomas Smith Rhett House, CA. 1820

Greek Revival mansion, with a two story wrap around piazza just one block from the Beaufort River. The house is adorned with Adam-style decorative mantels and dentil mouldings that remain today. The mantels top the four original fireplaces remaining in the main house.

Our historic Inn is conveniently located a short walk from the historic district shops, world-class restaurants, and the beautiful Waterfront Park. The Historic Rhett House Inn boasts a magnificent selection of accommodations that cater to the discerning needs and preferences of each and every guest. Our opulent Main House features ten exquisitely appointed rooms that exude a refined elegance, while our tranquil Cottages offer seven peaceful retreats that are perfect for those seeking a more secluded experience. For those who desire the ultimate in luxury, the Newcastle House provides a fully appointed home complete with a gourmet kitchen with a fireplace, a dining room table that seats eight, and a bar.

The Rhett House Inn is Greek Revival in style, although elements from the earlier Adam, or Federal style such as this are visible throughout the house. In the 18th & 19th centuries, architects and designers would publish books of decorative elements and designs, which were then copied by architects and artisans. Cribs and extra beds aren't available at this property. Breakfast was running late by 45 minutes and people came in after us ordered the same got theirs and left before we were served. One gentleman was complaining about such and was also served before us, even though he had come in after us.

Centrally located making it great to walk around Beaufort. WE would recommend it highly and would stay there again. We wanted a typical old southern style house and it was perfect. The Historic Rhett House Inn offers a wide variety of accommodations for each person. There is a total of 10 rooms that are in The Rhett House. Many famous people have stayed in these rooms, here get transported into a different time.

Relax in our lush garden, enjoy a leisurely breakfast on the veranda, or unwind in one of our cozy common areas. Seven of the Inn’s rooms are found in the Cottage just across the street from the back of the property. This building, was built in 1846 as a store for freed slaves to buy and sell goods.

With two different verandas that are perfect for relaxation. The main level veranda has some sitting areas perfect for watch the horse and buggies go by, as well as tables where guests can enjoy breakfast. The upper veranda offers some more sitting areas as well as a hammock that you lay back and relax with.
